Festival of Bread in Wolnica Square

Cracovians know this celebration and enjoy it. During the 3rd Festival of Regional Products in Wolnica Square it will be possible to taste the best bread of the Małopolska region, which will definitely seduce everyone with its fresh crust and wonderful smell. During this two-day celebration Cracovian bakers will not only display their products but they will also demonstrate their craft.. Baking bread is not an easy task. One has to acquire all the necessary knowledge and ability to achieve anything in this profession.
Bakery as a profession has a long tradition in Małopolska. Bakers constituted the oldest registered guild in Krakow. They were mentioned already in 1257 in the documents of city foundation. To keep up this glorious tradition, bakers of Krakow still maintain high standard of their services, which everyone will be able to check during the festival.
The organizers of the event have planned many attractions, for example baking of obwarznki (a kind of pretzel) which have become a speciality of Krakow. It will be also possible to listen to some folk bands and buy other regional products. The Festival, apart from being devoted to bread, will also include a poll called “Tastes of Małopolska.” It will be possible to taste żur from Małopolska (a kind of white sour soup) and other delicious regional products. Those who would like to learn something about traditional cuisine in Małopolska may take part in a session devoted to this topic in the Etnographic Museum in Wolnica Square.
