Only love can stop the time

St Valentine’s Day is called a festival of love. Plenty of us think this is one of the most special days of the year and that is why we try to spend it in an unforgettable and unique way. Don’t you know what to do on this year’s Valentine’s Day? What about taking a person you love in some romantic place, where the dreams can come true…
Valentine’s Day is a special day of the year. And although love should be expressed every day, 14th February is the day when we remember about the people we love and we try to show and tell them that we really care.
The origin of Valentine’s Day dates back to the Middle Ages. It is celebrated on 14th February, the day when birds mating season begins and also the day of Saint Valentine who is revered, among other things, as the patron of those in love.
At first this festival was spread in England and France. And then it spread, quite quickly, to the whole world. Nowadays Valentine’s Day is celebrated virtually in every country by most of its citizens, especially the young ones. And although this day has become a very commercial festival, the special atmosphere of 14th February results in the fact that many of us surrender to this frenzy and buy Valentine cards, mascots, flowers and chocolates, send messages with love wishes and try to show our beloved how much we love them.
Such day lets us to realize that love changes our lives, that this is such an important feeling and that we seldom say „I love you”. But these three simple words can bring so much joy.
Valentine’s Day is celebrated almost everywhere in the world. Many countries has also their own Valentine’s Day traditions and customs. They are mostly connected with the Valentine presents we give to someone we love and Valentine fortune-telling which is to predict the name of a beloved.
Valentine’s Day celebrations reached Poland only at the beginning of the 90’s of 20th century, together with the arrival of capitalism. However, it does not mean that our ancestors did not celebrate love. Our traditional Slavic festival of love is Midsummer Night, celebrated in the shortest night of the year. Nowadays we also celebrate this night.
However, it is on Valentine’s Day that we give presents to the people we love, we invite them to romantic dinners, we send Valentine cards. But we should not restrict showing love only to this one day of the year.
