Małopolska Air Picnic, which slowly becomes another holiday tradition in Krakow, will be organised for the fifth time during the last weekend of June. The event will start on 28th June 2008 at 10:00 a.m. in Rakowickie Airport and will last till 6:00 p.m. the next day. Team air performances will include: flying in formation, corkscrew manoeuvres, barrel-rolls, parachute jumps and many other breath taking acrobatic tricks. The whole event is organised by the Polish Aviation Museum in Krakow, which has also prepared other attractions for the spectators on the ground.
To start with, the visitors will be able to take a closer look at planes, some of the lucky people will even have a chance to get into the cockpits. Apart from that there will be other attractions organised including: Historical Reconstruction, funfair, climbing wall, presentation of BMW Sauber racing car, exhibitions of Cracovian museums and finally stands with gifts and snacks for those who get hungry. The event is ideal for whole families and even for the people who are not aviation enthusiasts – among so many attractions everyone will find something fascinating.
An interesting fact is that the airport in Rakowice-Czyżyny, where the whole event takes place, was the oldest airport in the independent Republic of Poland. It was liberated from Austrian forces in October 1918. Today the place is partially occupied by the Nowa Huta district, but the remaining area belongs to the Polish Aviation Museum, which has organised Air Picnic there since 2003.
