21st June, the Vistula Embankment.
Inhabitants and enthusiasts of Krakow cannot imagine June without this traditional event which starts the holiday season every year in the city. During the shortest night of the year, right next to Wawel Hill, we might expect good music and large number of competitions (including the most famous one for the most beautiful garland). Wianki corresponds to an old Slavic Midsummer Night celebration, during which girls prepared garlands and then they threw them into the Vistula River. They believed that their future husbands will pick the flowers up from the water. Today this is one of the most famous outdoor festivals in Krakow.
This year the audience will have a chance to listen to some music of famous Polish and foreign stars. One of the biggest attractions will be the concert of Jamiroquai, the popular British band which has existed for 15 years. But Polish artists will also appear. We may expect Novika (Kasia Nowicka), Bisquit and Andrzej Smolik. The latter is well known mainly as a producer cooperating with such Polish stars as Robert Gawliński or Krzysztof Krawczyk. The whole event will be complemented by performances of Mosqitoo, Loco Star and June.
At the end of the night beautiful fireworks display will appear in the sky. All people who will be unable to find a fern flower, which according to the legend brings loads of luck but is in bloom only during this one night of the year, will be able to cheer up looking at this marvelous sight above them.
