For our grandfathers and great-grandfathers photography used to be a marvel of modern technology, a magical mean of grasping transient moments. The invention of this medium taught a man how to hold back time, how to make a moment immortal and how to transfer it to immortality. Sometimes an image may tell you more than a thousand words. However, is it possible to appreciate tasteful artistic photography at the turn of the 21st century, when everyone is attacked by a vast number of poor quality pictures?

Throughout May it will be possible to answer this question as another edition of the Month of Photography has just begun. According to the annual tradition many places (over 45 this year), such as Cracovian museums, galleries, cafes, and even private apartments will be involved in the event. The photographs have been divided into six thematic presentations, many of which contain original projects. Every edition of the Month… is devoted to one country. This year, quite surprisingly, Poland will be the guest of honour and Polish photographs will constitute the majority.

The biggest presentation entitled “Dreamers and Witnesses. Polish Photography of the 20th Century” will be prepared by the famous photographer Wojciech Prażmowski. The project will include photographs by Witkacy or Zdzisław Beksiński, which have been brought to Krakow due to the kindness of various galleries and privet collectors. Another interesting presentation is entitled “Youth.” It includes works of many artists who quite impressively interpret the main topic. A curiosity of another project named “Changes” is the author, Monika Brodka, who is a young singer well known from the Polish edition of program “Idol.”
